How to order a Lyft or Uber ride for someone else
Ordering a Lyft or Uber ride for someone else is easy. You can use your own account to pick up someone else (let’s say it’s your mom) anywhere in the country and it’s almost as easy as ordering a ride for yourself.
Here’s a quick, step-by-step guide:
Uber
- Open/login to your Uber app.
- Click on the “Where to?” field.
- Two fields should appear. The first has your current location automatically listed.
- Click on that field, delete your current location, and enter the address where your mom should be picked up. This can be in another city or state.
- Click on the “Where to?” field and enter the address of her destination.
- Review the map and confirm the pickup and dropoff locations look accurate.
- Choose the type of car you’d like to send (probably UBERX).
- Confirm your billing information.
- Click “Confirm UBERX”.
- You’ll have a chance to adjust the pin to the exact GPS coordinates you’d like. Once the pin is where you want it on the map, click to confirm the pickup location again.
- Once a driver has accepted your ride, you’ll see where the car is, the driver’s name, and the type of car he or she is driving.
- Swipe up for more information about the trip and an option to contact the driver directly.
Lyft
- Open/login to your Lyft app.
- Click on the field showing your current location.
- Two fields should appear. The first says, “Address or place name.”
- Click on that field and enter the address where your mom should be picked up. This can be in another city or state.
- Set the pin on the map to the exact location where your mom will be waiting for her ride and click “Set pickup.”
- Click on the “Add destination” field and enter the address of her destination.
- Review the map and confirm the pickup and dropoff locations look accurate.
- Choose the type of car you’d like to send (probably Lyft).
- Confirm your billing information.
- Click “Request Lyft.”
- Click “Confirm pickup” one more time.
- Once a driver has accepted your ride, you’ll see where the car is, the driver’s name, and the type of car he or she is driving.
That’s it!
At this point we recommend calling your mom and letting her know who is coming to get her and how far away they are. Remind her to head outside and look for the car because the driver won’t come to the door.
You can keep an eye on your mom’s trip until she’s dropped off, so you know she made it to her destination!
